Reviews
I lived in Miami for most of my life and came to enjoy Haitian food. In my opinion, Haiti has some of the best food in the Caribbean. Haitian food is very balance and while it does not have the heat or Jamaican jerk, it still has spicy elements. Bon Zanmi is the first Haitian restaurant I've tried in the Tampa area and it did not disappoint. Griot, pork that is stewed until it is tender and then deep fried, was on the menu and one of my favorites. The griot was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. There was a slight hint of piman in the griot and I could tell the restaurant seasoned it with eppis: a traditional green Haitian seasoning made of green onions, garlic, sour Orange, and scotch-bonnet peppers. My only gripe was the portion was kind of small for the price. Accompanying the griot was diri kole: white rice cooked with beans seasoned with cloves. The rice and beans were excellent and tasted like they just came off a Haitian Grandma's stove. The beans were tender and every grain of rice was separate. The meal also came with banun pezee: deep fried plantains that are smashed. I don't like fried plantains at all but it was hot and crispy I enjoyed my meal and will definitely visit this restaurant again.
Well, after trying a few places in Tampa for Haitian food. I found a new spot. I ordered over the phone and order was ready within 15mins as stated over the phone. For most ppl that order Haitian food, we know that are community tends to lack customer service and time management. However, this wasn't an issue which I'm super grateful for. I ordered the legume with white rice and brown beans. Good taste fresh and great. I'm happy cause lord knows I was hungry. I'll definitely be back!
Y'all I'm running on E in my car - matter of fact, lower than E. I told myself I would get gas after I got the food. I got a whiff of that beautiful Haitian manje and said I'm going to risk it on my way home cause THIS SMELLS TOO GOOD & NEEDS TO BE EATEN NOW! I made the best decision tonight by going to Bon Zanmi! The prices were good, the food was phenomenal, and service was pleasant. And it's less than 10 min away from where I work! *praise dance* If I get stuck on the road on my next trip, that's ok because this flavorful food made up for it.
Feels like home here. It was cool that one of the staff member who was baking a cake let me taste the cake batter. So yummy! This is my moms cooking and I love it. I'm basic so i always get the chicken with sauce with rice and beans my absolutely favorite. It really feels like home and i feel like I'm back in my uncles restaurant in my Miami. Service is awesome and very catering. I believe they cater food as well for events and special occasions. Sometime the music maybe to loud especially on sundays but I'm ok with that. I love seeing the group of Haitian husbands enjoying a bottled of courvoisier with their dinner , it looks it's their hangout spot. The staff is great and friendly. I wish I lived closer but whenever I'm nearby I stop by.
I think this may be my new Haitian spot. I've tried quite a few locations in the area and the griot here along with the legume is the best. The staff is always nice when I go.
